MindR GPS tracking via your phone

Introducing the SCD60 – Vodafone Automotive’s Next-Generation GPS Tracker

The SCD60 is the latest GPS tracking solution from Vodafone Automotive, designed to replace the outgoing SCD40, which will no longer be supported once the 2G network is phased out at the end of this year. The tracker can be connected digitally via the vehicles CAN-Bus, or hardwired to read the ignition turning on and off. Here in New Zealand, the tracker works with MindR Connect.

Key Improvements and Features:

  • 4G Connectivity
The SCD60 operates on the 4G LTE Cat M1 network, ensuring faster, more reliable communication and future-proof performance.

  • ADR Card Compatibility
Optional Automatic Driver Recognition (ADR) Cards allow the SCD60 to provide basic alarm functionality, especially useful for vehicles without CAN-Bus support.

  • Built in Crank Immobiliser

Compact Size & Ultra-Low Current Draw

A flat battery is never good, especially when it’s caused by a power-hungry tracker. Many tracking devices are notorious for draining your car battery when it’s sitting idle. Fortunately, the SCD60 is engineered differently.

According to the datasheet, the SCD60 draws less than 5mA in sleep mode. To confirm this, I tested it on the bench using the same multimeter used for evaluating other trackers. The result? A consistent reading of just 3.5mA, making it one of the most power-efficient units I’ve tested.

Embedded in the unit is a 6D accelerometer, which will wake the tracker up from sleep mode should an event occur.

Inside the unit is a built in GPS aerial that will work for over 95% of installations. For those difficult vehicles there is the option of adding an external GPS aerial which would allow the tracker to be installed in a location that lacks a clear satellite view.

The unit remains compact – identical in size to the previous SCD40 model. Measuring 95mm x 65mm x 25mm, which makes it easy to conceal.

SCD60 Alarm Functionality Overview

There is the option wire up the SCD60 to work as an integrated alarm. This enhances the security through multiple alert and deterrent systems:

The unit has output channels that can:

  • Flash an LED when the alarm is armed
  • Honk the vehicle horn if an intrusion is detected
  • Send instant notifications to your mobile device via the MindR Connect app

Three Modes of Alarm Operation

1. CAN-Bus Integration
The SCD60 can read vehicle data, just like a regular CAN-Bus alarm

  • Arming via the factory remote
  • Disarming via the factory remote
  • Door open detection
  • Bonnet open detection (vehicle dependent)
  • Ignition protection

2. ADR (Automatic Driver Recognition) Arming
When used with an ADR card:

  • It arms automatically once the engine is turned off and the ADR card is out of range
  • The system disarms automatically when the ADR card is in range (i.e., the driver is near the vehicle)
  • An intrusion alert is sent if the ignition is turned on.

3. Pager Input for External Alarm Integration
The SCD60 includes a dedicated pager input, enabling it to be paired with advanced alarm systems such as the Vodafone Automotive 4822.

This setup allows the tracker to function as an extension of a more comprehensive security system.
