Viper 5105V & 5305V Remote Start Alarm Systems

Viper Car Alarms Wellington

What is the difference between the 5105V and 5305V remote start alarm?

The Viper 5105V is a one-way remote start alarm system from Directed Electronics.

The 5305V is the same system but comes with a two-way remote control and receiver. Apart from this, they are both the same system. They are both built around the 5X05 module which is the main unit that gets installed in the vehicle.

Shared remote start alarm system components

The 5X05 is the brain of the Viper remote start alarm.

It comes along with the singer dual zone impact sensors and the usual wiring looms.

There are ESP2 and D2d ports which makes the system compatible with the Vipertraq GPS system, as well as being able to intergrade with the optional CAN-BUS modules for a clean installation on most vehicles.

There are also 6 auxiliary channels which can be operated from the remote which allow for some quirky customisation options.

Viper’s entry-level remote start alarm is the 5105V, it comes with 2 one-way 4 button remotes.

The 7146V remote layout is clean and simple to use with arm, disarm, and remote start button on the face of the remote and an aux button placed on the side.

As with the other Viper remote start alarms sold in New Zealand, the 5105V is Vipertraq compatible.

Car alarm functions

All the usual alarm functions are included. Door boot and bonnet protection, 2 stage shock sensor, 6 tone siren and horn honk as standard. There is also a built in starter immobiliser.

XR Plus one-way control center

The 5105V comes with the XR Plus control center. This is a one-way antenna so with the alarm status LED and valet switch built-in.

It’s worth noting that you can’t just add a two-way remote to the alarm without upgrading the control center to the 6213T two-way responder version.

The control center is normally mounted to the inside of the windscreen/ It is best placed at the top, away from any metal for optimal range.

Two-way remote

The Viper 5305V comes with the 7345V two-way LCD remote and a two-way receiver. I also comers with a 7146V one-way remote.

Advantages of the 7345V remote

The two-way remote will display:

  • The state of the alarm (armed or disarmed)
  • If the remote start is active
  • if the alarm has been triggered

The 7345V uses one AAA battery which will need to be changed periodically.

All of the other Viper two-way remote controls can be charged with a USB cable so if you don’t want to be changing the battery then check out the 5806V and 5706V remote start alarms.

Responder two-way control center

At first glace the 6213T two-way control center looks the same as the one-way system. The only visible difference is that it says “Responder” instead of “XR Plus”.

400 meter remote range

The 2 way system also offer a range of 400 meters

How 2-way remote controls work

Confirmation reports.

Alarm notifications

The main feature of a 2-way remote is getting notified about what is happening to the vehicle when it out of hearing range.

This can be really useful in the Wellington suburbs where many home owners are forced to park on  the street and the car is often out of sight

Sirens

1505T Battery Siren and 514L Standard Siren

Battery back-up siren

Because all NZ Viper stock comes via Australia they come boxed with battery back-up sirens. The sirens come with an override key which I’m not a fan of.

I like to swap the siren for a standard 6 tone siren which gets hidden. Either way, both options are the same price and it’s something I discuss before installation.

6 tone siren

Both the 1505T battery back-up siren and standard siren cycle through 6 tones. You can here what they sound like here

Remote engine start

The 5105V and 5305V will work in both diesel and petrol vehicles.

A turbo timer function is available for vehicles that require it too.

If the alarm is triggered whilst in remote start mode then the engine will turn off and the vehicle will remain immobilised.

Automatic transmission only

If you want a remote start system in a manual transmission car then you’ll need to go up to one of the following alarms:
