Suzuki Swift Security
Having just installed an upgrade alarm on a new (Gen 3) 2026 Suzuki Swift I figured that now would be a good time to run through the security options for each model. The Swift came in as the 16th most stolen vehicle according to NZ police data 1st March – 31st August 2025.
The generation 1 Swift made up the bulk of the numbers stolen.
Interestingly, both the 3rd and 4th generation Swift are currently available as new vehicles here in New Zealand, although the gen 3 is in its final year of sale here.

4th Generation Suzuki Swift Security

I’ve not yet worked on the generation 4 Swift.
Gen 4 Suzuki Swift Alarm
What I do know is that all models sold in New Zealand come with a factory immobiliser and an alarm. What I don’t know is how good the alarm is.
If you have one, I’d love to take a look and test out how good the existing security is.
The IGLA CAN-BUS immobiliser is listed as working with the current version of the Swift.
I will update this post as and when I get my hands on one.
3rd Generation Suzuki Swift

The 3rd generation swift came with a factory immobiliser and keyless entry. It had either a traditional remote key or keyless proximity locking with push to start button.
To the best of my knowledge, none of the models sold here in New Zealand came with an alarm system. It’s worth double checking this as models sold in Australia give the option to turn the alarm on and off (see section 2-110 of the user manual).
Gen 3 Suzuki Swift alarm options
I highly recommend the Vodafone Automotive 4822 CAN-BUS upgrade alarm which works using the existing remote/keyless system.
Below are some photos of how it looks in the car, showing the ultrasonic internal movement sensors and the LED Control panel.

2nd Generation Suzuki Swift

The 2nd generation Swift came with a factory immobiliser and keyless entry. It had either a traditional remote key, or keyless proximity locking with push to start button.
The top of the line RXS model comes with the Suzuki Smart proximity key and push to start button. The other models simply have a traditional remote key.
Factory Alarm
The factory alarm on the Gen 2 swift is about as basic as they come.
The alarm has door and boot protection but does not cover the bonnet,
It lacks an internal motion sensor and the alarm uses the horn which is not overly loud!

Upgrading the Gen 2 Suzuki Swift alarm
If you need to upgrade your alarm, I recommend the Vodafone Automotive 4822 CAN-BUS upgrade alarm. It works with the existing remote or keyless system.

1st Generation Suzuki Swift

The 1st generation Swift is the most vulnerable model to theft.
The models with proximity locking have a factory immobiliser, but not all of the imported models with a remote key include one.
Check if your Gen 1 Swift has an immobiliser
Look for the orange immobiliser light in the instrument cluster when you first turn the ignition on. I’ve highlighted where this is in the photo below.

Upgrading the Gen 1 Swift security
If your Suzuki Swift does not have an immobiliser, I highly recommend adding on to the car. It is also worth considering and upgrade alarm as these are still getting broken into.
A PLIP alarm is a good option if you wish to retain the factory remote locking system. A remote alarm can also be installed.
