According to AMI insurance data, the Nissan Tiida was the third most stolen car for 2025. The Tiida made up 6% of insurance claims for the year.
Here I look at the Nissan Tiida security system and explain which models are getting stolen and what can be done to protect the car from theft.
Nissan Tiida immobiliser

Which models are getting stolen?
Nearly all of the Nissan Tiida’s getting stolen are the first-generation model which was in production from 2004 to 2012.
The vulnerable cars are the lower specification import models that lack a factory immobiliser.
New Zealand new models sold here from 2006 onwards came with the Nissan Anti-Theft System Vehicle Immobiliser (NATS). The car key has a plastic handle with a transponder chip encased.
You can find a brochure with the full specification of these models here.
How to find out if your Tiida has an immobiliser or not.

If your Tiida has a factory immobiliser then there will be a flashing red lock symbol in the instrument cluster when the ignition is turned off.

Any model that comes with the Nissan smart key has an immobiliser as standard. This allows keyless access and has a toggle to turn where you would normally insert and turn the key to start the car.
If your Tiida has a plain metal key that starts the car, or lacks an immobiliser warning light then you do not have an immobiliser.

Retrofitted Tiida immobiliser
If your Tiida does not have an immobiliser then there are a number of options to protect against theft and to keep your insurance company happy.
Here you can find a range of immobilisers that can all be installed in the Nissan Tiida.
Nissan Tiida alarm options

Even if your Tiida does have an immobiliser, it’s still worth considering an alarm system. Opportunistic car thieves are not always educated on which models to target and can cause expensive damage, even if they fail to hotwire the car.
If your Tiida no longer has the original remote keys then a remote alarm can be added. I can also install an alarm that integrates with the factory keyless entry.
Most car alarms include a built-in immobiliser.
