Nissan Navara Security System

Nissan Car Alarms

This post covers each generation of Nissan Navara security systems. I explain what comes as standard equipment along what options there are upgrade the security to protect both the vehicle and contents.

Navara NP300 (D23)

What security does the NP300 come with?

The NP300 Nissan Navara comes with a factory-fitted alarm system in all models apart from the entry-level DX variant which I’ll explain later in the post. All models including the DX have an immobiliser.

The Top of the range ST-X model also comes with the Nissan Intelligent Key which gives proximity locking and a push to start button which means there is no need to press the remote buttons or insert a key.

The alarm, however, is rather basic in that it only offers door trigger input and honks the horn.

When the alarm arms the security symbol in the instrument cluster flashes rapidly for 30 seconds. Once the pre-arm phase has finished It then flashes once every 3 seconds when fully armed.

The factory alarm has no internal movement sensor or bonnet protection, let alone a battery back-up siren.

NP300 upgrade alarm options

The NP300 shares the same CAN-BUS platform as most other current Nissan’s so the Vodafone Automotive 4822 CAN-BUS upgrade alarm is my recommendation.

I’ve tested it on the ST-X model with the Intelligent key, as well as the RX and ST models that come with the traditional Nissan remote key. The 4822 works flawlessly with them all.

As I’ve pointed out before the vast majority of CAN-BUS alarms can be tricked into arming/disarming by pressing the hazard switch and locking/unlocking the doors with most Nissan’s. This is not an issue with the Cobra.

DX model lacks keyless entry

If you have the DX (base model) and want keyless entry then the Cyclops KE11 is a good option.

Most remote alarms can be added to the DX specification Navara.

Navara Tailgate Locking

DX Navara Taigate locking

Adding keyless locking to the Navara Tailgate is possible for models that do not have it. Not only does this save you having to fumble for the keys, but it’s also reassuring to know that you’ve locked it with the doors.

Tool protection

If your NP300 has a canopy then a PIR sensor is an easy add on as it a reed switch should you have a hard lid.

More details about ute load area protection can be found here.

D40 Nissan Navara Security

The D40 Navara came out in 2005 and stopped production in 2015 when it was replaced with the D23 Navara.

Factory Security

It comes with keyless entry and a transponder immobiliser as standard. There is no factory alarm.

A CAN-BUS upgrade alarm will work in  the D40 Navara, however care should be taken when choosing which alarm and installer to use. This Navara uses the central locking and hazard light flash to arm and disarm as explain in my Aftermarket CAN-BUS alarms post.

This means that most after-market alarms can be tricked into disarming. I recommend the Vodafone Automotive 4822 as it has protection against this defeat,

D22 Nissan Navara Security

D22 Navara
D22 Navara 1997-2015

The D22 Navara was originally introduced in 1997 and replaced the previous generation D21 Navara. Nissan NZ sold the D22 Navara in parallel with the D40 Navara up until 2015.

Minimal Security

The later models of the D22 were very basic. They did not come with Keyless entry, or any form of security.

Nissan were so tight with the options that they that stripped away some of the basic essentials. it does not even come with door switches, other then one on the drivers door.

Poverty specification Navara!

Navara Door Switch Blank

Nissan door switches

Nissan have put blank plugs in the switch locations, so the holes are still there, but not the switches or wiring.  Last time I checked (in 2013) Nissan wanted over $50.00 per switch which is crazy money for such a basic part.

Note: To the best of my knowledge all pre face-lift D22’s (2005) have door switches.

If you intend to get an alarm for a D22 then 3 switches will be needed to protect the other doors.

The local Nissan breaker sells second hand switches for about $22.00 which is an option.

Import your own door switches

Or you can order door switches directly from Japan via Amayama

The D22 also requires a drivers door motor for full keyless entry, but I can take care of this.

Security recommendations

The current D22 (2013) has no Immobiliser so this would be my minimum recommendation.

Any alarm system will require 3 Nissan door switches and a drivers door motor for keyless entry to work,
