I recommend upgrading the Nissan Caravan Security System. Here I explain the NV350 alarm upgrade options available to protect against theft.
The Nissan NV350 was released in 2012. The current van (E26) is the fifth generation Nissan Caravan; it’s also sold as the Nissan Urvan. Nissan New Zealand does not sell vans, so all models here are imports from Japan.
What security does the NV350 come with?
Early models from 2012-2017 come with remote central locking but lack an immobiliser. Most of the 2018 models I’ve looked at have a factory immobiliser. This is indicated by a flashing red security symbol in the gauge cluster when the key is out of the ignition.
All versions of the Nissan Caravan lack any form of alarm system. Given that it’s normally used as a trade vehicle, upgrading the security is a must.
NV350 Upgrade Alarm
My recommended NV350 upgrade alarm is the Vodafone Automotive 4822 CAN-BUS Upgrade Alarm, as it integrates with the Nissan’s remote locking. If the van only has one remote key, then a 2-button padlock remote can be added to the system.
All versions of the 4822 give full perimeter protection and use the horn and hazard lights to notify you if an intrusion occurs.
A crank immobiliser is an option for the models that lack a factory immobiliser.
The Enhanced version of the 4822 includes ultrasonic movement sensors to protect the load area, as well as a super loud battery back-up siren.
The LED Control Panel allows the sensors to be turned off, and for the alarm to be disarm should the remote batteries fail.
Remote Alarm Options
A good remote alarm/immobiliser such as the Autowatch 446RiS would be a good option, but would not work with the Nissan remote.
