Landcruiser 70 Series Security
The Toyota Landcruiser 70 Series, first introduced in 1984, has evolved significantly over its four decades of production. This legendary off-road vehicle continues to be one of Toyota’s most enduring and capable platforms, with numerous updates and body configurations added throughout its production run.

Current Body Options
The 70 Series is currently available in three distinct configurations:
- 2-door Utility (Ute) – Single cab pickup for maximum cargo capacity
- 4-door Utility (Ute) – Dual cab pickup offering passenger space and cargo versatility
- 5-door Station Wagon – Full enclosed body for maximum passenger and cargo protection
Factory Security Features
Immobiliser System
All 70 Series LandCruisers manufactured after the 2007 facelift come equipped with a factory transponder immobiliser system as standard. This electronic security feature prevents the engine from starting without the correct programmed key, providing a fundamental layer of theft protection.

Keyless Entry System
In 2014, Toyota added keyless entry functionality to the 70 Series range. However, unlike other Toyota models where the remote control is integrated into the key head, the 70 Series uses a distinctive approach:
- Separate remote design – The remote control unit is not built into the key itself
- Bulky but robust construction – While larger than integrated remotes, this separate unit is designed for durability
- Keychain attachment – The remote attaches to your keychain alongside the mechanical key
This rugged remote design aligns with the 70 Series’ agricultural design – durability over sleek aesthetics.

Quality Components
As with any vehicle, picking quality components is vital if they are going to last. This is especially important for any off-road vehicle that will be exposed to the elements.
Far to often, alarms come with poor quality bonnet switches. These normally end up failing after 12 months.
Do It Once & Do It Right
I recommend waterproof switches which will last for years.
If the stuff you can see does not look good, then you can guarantee the rest of the installation will not be good. If you are looking for the cheaper option you’ll find it’s not good value in the long term.

Installation Considerations
When selecting an aftermarket alarm system for your 70 Series:
Make sure the alarm is as rugged as the vehicle. If you take your Landcruiser off road and your alarm siren is not waterproof then you’re literally flushing money down the drain.
I highly recommend the Vodafone Automotive 5375 Waterproof siren.
If you’re require internal cabin protection then the Vodafone Automotive Ultrasonic sensors look the part. They are a perfect colour match for the interior and look like they came with the vehicle from the factory.
