Hyundai iLoad Factory Alarm Upgrade

Hyundai Security

The Hyundai iLoad comes with a factory transponder immobiliser, alarm system and keyless entry. But the alarm is rather basic so you may want to consider upgrading it if you keep valuables inside.

The factory alarm covers the doors and bonnet, however, it lacks any form of internal protection. It can also be disarmed by unlocking the drivers’ door with the key. Not really very effective if a window gets smashed or the lock gets picked!

Why is the factory alarm not very loud?

Half the reason the factory alarm is so quiet is the location of the horn. It’s in the engine bay, by the time the sound has echoed around and made its way out of the vehicle its lost about 50% of its volume.

I like to use the main horn as well as a siren when upgrading the alarm,

Check the door switches on the iLoad

It’s a good idea to make sure all the door switches are working. These are known to fail on the iLoad.

If the switches are not working then the alarm will not detect the doors opening, and there is a risk of locking the keys inside the van when it auto re-locks.

I’ve the part number for the door switch is 93560 3B100.

Recommended Alarm Upgrade

My go to upgrade alarm is the Enhanced version of the Vodafone Automotive 4822 OEM Upgrade Alarm.

The iLoad does support a CAN-BUS alarm, but the alarm is easy enough to wire up as a good PLIP upgrade alarm

Here are some photos of what you’ll see after the install:

Common iLoad Alarm Installation Issues

I’ve come across a number of iLoad alarm installs where the alarm disarms with the door lock, and the switch on the drivers door card. This should not be possible if the alarm is installed correctly. The PLIP alarm post explains what to look for to see if the alarm is fitted correctly.

The iLoad has a factory bonnet switch which is reliable. It should be wired up and is easy to do.

Hyundai 2 Button Remote

Up until early 2016, the iLoad only had a single button remote.

I have never been a big fan of single button remotes as it’s not always clear if it the vehicle has been locked or unlocked.

It’s worth considering an alarm with a dedicated remote if you have the old remote, it’s just easier to use.

In 2016 the iLoad remote got upgraded to a 2 button remote.
