About the Fiat Ducato (3rd Generation)
The current Fiat Ducato, now in its 3rd generation, was released in 2006. It’s also sold as a re-branded Peugeot Boxer, a Citroen Relay, and a big list of other names which I’ll list at the end of this post.

Standard Security Features
All models come with keyless entry and a transponder immobiliser as standard, but lack an alarm.
The Ducato received a facelift in 2014 which was mainly cosmetic, the most noticeable difference being the sleeker headlights. The post covers both the pre, and post facelift models.
Recommended Alarm System
I highly recommend the Vodafone Automotive 4822 CAN-BUS alarm for the Ducato as it works flawlessly with the original Fiat remote.
The same applies if you need a Peugeot Boxer alarm or need your Citroen Relay secured.
If the van only has one remote key then adding a Padlock Remote is a good option. I can confirm this is an easy upgrade as I added one to a facelift Ducato in Karori (Wellington) in 2016.

Bonnet Switch
It’s one of those vehicles where there is no factory bonnet switch for the CAN-BUS to detect, and there is no obvious spot to retro fit a bonnet switch. When this happens I like to get the old blue-tack out. It’s a useful way to get an impression of where the bonnet compresses down.
For the Ducato in the photo, I ended up using a custom bracket which mounts on a factory bolt with a waterproof switch. The result is tidy and will not rust like the low quality ones most alarms come with.

Ultrasonic Internal Movement Sensors
If you have a van with a partition then you may want to consider either a PIR sensor or microwave sensor a for the load area.

Fiat Ducato – Popular Motorhome
The Fiat Ducato is a very popular motorhome in NZ. A common requirement with Motorhomes is being able to lock the van without arming the alarm, or arming the alarm without setting it off whilst being inside.
With the Ducato there are several ways to do this. Pressing the lock button on the dash will lock and unlock the van without arming the alarm.
An additional Padlock remote can turn off the sensors via a 2nd and 3rd press or the lock button.
It is also possible to use the LED control panel and deactivate the sensors prior to arming the alarm.

The camper van version of the Ducato can have reed switches fitted to protect the external hatch doors.
