The AK4198 is part of the new generation of alarms available from Cobra, whilst there was nothing wrong with the old models the Cobra AK4198 raises the bar in almost every area.
New Remote Controls
Gone are the odd looking remotes found on the AK3198 and AB7928.
In its place is a tidy two button remote which has a separate lock and unlock button.
The Remote comes with two buttons which do exactly what they should. The Lock button Arms the Alarm and will close the windows if held down (where total closure has been installed). A second press within 22 Seconds turns off the Ultrasonic Sensors and a third press will turn of any additional sensors such as the optional Level sensor.
Car finder is activated if the Lock button is pressed when fully armed (after 22 seconds) and will beep the siren, a second press will then activate panic mode.
As for the Unlock button… Well you’ve probably figured that one out, if not then it is a minor miracle that you’re actually reading this!
New Ultrasonic Sensors
Cobra’s Ultrasonic sensors come with factory looking pods which really look the part, they replace to old style ultrasonic s which used to tuck into the top of the “A” Pillar which never really looked all that flash.
The new sensors look like they cam e with the vehicle, rather than being an aftermarket add on.
Quality Siren
The Siren has always been a strong feature for Cobra and still is with the AK4198, it is rugged compact and most importantly bloody loud as well as being small enough to hide on the majority vehicles.
LED Control Panel
The LED is housed with the pin code over-ride button is still the same as the old alarm, but then that was always a good system and far less annoying then most other alarms which involve having to cycle the ignition key on and off and waiting for the LED to flash! The only downside is that the LED is only 3mm is size and is arguably not a great visual deterrent. Having said that there is nothing from stopping a good installer from adding a second larger LED to the system.

Looking at most of the competition it would be easy to think that Cobra was 20 years ahead in terms of technology and that’s being kind!
