The Cobra AC8510 seems to have been around for ever and although I must confess to not having read the bible from cover to cover, I would expect that Noah had one on his arc to stop his outboard motor from being hot-wired!
This immobiliser is so old that Cobra have updated their logo twice since it first appeared and yet still it remains unchanged!
(Update 2025, there is also to rebranding to Vodafone Automotive in 2025)
Well enough faffing about, here’s the review:

Metal Security Housed Immobiliser
The first thing that strikes you about the AC8510 is it’s metal security case. It’s about a solid as any immobiliser system I’ve ever come across. You’re not going to get past it by simply flipping open up the case as you would with most of the systems for sale here in NZ.
On top of it being attack proof it is also small. It measures in at 10cm x 3cm x 4.5cm
Touch Key Immobiliser
When the LED is flashing the immobiliser is armed. It Auto arms 60 seconds after turning the ignition off.
To disarm the immobiliser you have to press the touch key to the receiver pad which then gives you a 60 second window to put the key in the ignition and start the car.
Super simple and no batteries to worry about going flat.
RRP: $350.00
Insurance Approved: Thatcham Cat 2-1
Obsessive Rating: Simple but effective
Despite getting on in years it’s a very effective immobiliser when installed well.
