Those of you who regularly visit the Obsessive Facebook page will know I have recently flown down to Queenstown and purchased a Honda Beat. The 800KM drive back to Picton was a hoot!
As the little Honda is to be a demo car I obviously have some plans for it, so intend to post how the progress is going. (Having said that I was going update what I have done to the Obsessive Wagon! I will get round to it when I find the time).
The alarm system is already installed. No small feat, it was a huge install and I shall go into the details another time.

The factory radio cassette player is actually smaller than DIN (normal size) so I had a challenge on my hands. There was no way I could fit a normal aftermarket system into the Honda without butchering the Dashboard. So after 3 weeks scratching my head and throwing ideas around my mate, Tom suggested that I should look at marine audio. I ended up finding a Fusion radio, which was USB and iPod ready plus was smaller than the normal car stuff.
Here are the finished photos:

Fusion Marine Audio… Much better than the horrid alarms they make!
Note: This does not mean I am becoming a car stereo specialist. I have no intention of becoming a jack of all trades and a master of none!
This Post is dedicated to the Un-official Honda Beat UK Club member who refuses to get a Facebook account. Happy viewing Steve! Oh and if you’re tempted there are more stereo photos which include the guts of the job on the Obsessive Facebook page!
Thanks! About how much do those units cost in NZ?
Steve (in London at the moment)
Hi Steve
MS-RA200: NZ$450.00
Cheers,
Julian
P.S. I think that they should be available in the UK.

I *know* this post I’m replying to is ancient but I’m still chuffed to find it. The Beat is only now, finally, legal to import and license for use on American roads so naturally I bought a scruffy one. My Gathers system is dead – though IF I were able to get it operational, I wonder if there’s any modern adapter for it’s rear cd changer input that would allow Bluetooth / Aux input.
Not that I’m aware of. Honda did bring out a 20th anniversary replacement stereo which had USB, but it would still be in Jap radio frequency. I’m more then happy with my marine stereo.
